Thailand' Cabinet line-up unveiled

Following the constitutional court's dismissal of the Srettha cabinet, Thailand's parliament voted to appoint Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the youngest daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, as the new Prime Minister.

On September 4, 2024, the Royal Gazette officially announced the appointment of the Prime Minister and cabinet ministers, as initially declared on August 16, 2024.

This Cabinet has faced criticism from various sectors of society, amongst others, due to concerns over Ms. Paetongtarn's perceived lack of political experience in governing the country.

The retention of some ministers from the previous cabinet has been characterized as "old wine in new bottles”. The new Cabinet also sees close family members of the previous administration perpetuating dynastic politics.
